Replacement Xenons: are G.E. 'Xensation' OK?
#12
I've just invested in a pair of Philips 85122. There was a standard version and a plus version - i went for the plus version. The plus version was rated at 4100k so from what i've been reading here, a 4000k to 5000k rating seems to be optimum if you want an original factory look.
They were £90.99 GBP delivered to my door within 48 hours so fingers crossed it was money well spent.
The bulb that came out was a GE Xensation 53500 and they seem to be the original buls in the car which is a 2000 B5 A4 2.5 TDi Quattro with 209,000 miles on the clock.
They were so dim it was really dangerous driving at night. One of them turned orange yesterday and then died completely so i had to invest in replacements.

Usually the D2S bulbs are about 50% of original luminance/lumens after 4-5 years. You WILL notice a difference with new bulbs.
I stick with Phillips or Osram. I don't like more than 5000K color because to my eyes the road is less well lit. YMMV or you may just want to PO oncoming drivers. Your call.

OSRAM/SLYVANIA! seriously ask me how i know phillips is ok but they are being butt heads to us right now so im not totally happy with them....
as for GE, lets just say they've realised their mistake and are moving design and development back to the usa... but dont under any circumstance believe that ANY of these manufactuers dont product their bulbs in asia somewhere,,,,,,,
