Default Replacing just the ABS Sensing Ring on the outer CV Joint--possible?

Somehow, I bent mine out of shape during the driver's outer CV Boot replacement and I now have ABS/ESP lights.

I'd like to avoid buying a new CV Joint if I can. Anyone w/ experience on this one? Couldn't find anything of substance STFA.

Default As I recall, it's machined into the CV/hub shaft. If you cleaned it up with a steel wire brush...

when replacing the CV boot, it's probably OK. You need to reseat the sensor against it. Do so with a piece of paper between the two, to establish a minimal clearance. The sensor is a push fit into a spring sleeve.

Default Here. You may just need to clean it out...

...pull the sensor and look down in the hole. You'll see the hashmark-like surface of the outer CV Joint, which may be gunked up and preventing the sensor from sensing. Spray it w/ brake cleaner as you turn the hub to clean all the way round.

If the sensor is stuck, wiggle it back/forth--it shouldn't be too tough to free it.

This pic is from the front of the car, looking back at the driver's CV Boot. The ABS Sensor is right in the middle, sensor wire leading into and up the upright.

Default It can't be machined...mine broke free trying to re-shape it.

I just found an outer CV joint kit at Blauparts for $99 (joint + the normal boot kit). I think I'm just going to get that (which I probably should have done when I "fixed" the boot the first time!)

Default Your pic is of the wire from the sensor. Sensor can be frozen in its spring retainer....

and must then be driven out from the inside, destroying the sensor, BTDT.
