Default Replacing N80 Valve canister purge control valve

Im replacing the N80 valve since I am getting

16825 - EVAP Emission Control Sys: Incorrect Flow
P0441 - 35-00 - -
16839 - EVAP System: Large Leak Detected
P0455 - 35-00 - -

is there anything i need to do before or after to make sure the check engine light doesnt come back on when installing it.

Or is it as easy as remove the old one and replace the new one.

Default My bet is that your charcoal cannister for the fuel overflow is bad also and is ..

causing your purge valve to fail and throw a code. Clear the CEL via VAG after changing the purge valve but if the same codes come back next time I would change the charcoal cannister. What year is the car?

You could definitely need the charcoal cannister in addition to the purge valve..

Default Not unless the canister is itself broken...the charcoal is prob good at 103K miles.

Or unless the canister is full of gasoline from not being vented because the purge control valve failed....emptying and venting the canister might work...run a vacuum cleaner (positive side) through the canister to ventilate/purge the charcoal.

Default Actually I was told that it gets filled up from the over flow when you top off the tank<more>

When they changed my charcoal cannister at 80k miles he said the difference in weight between the new and old was incredible because of the all the gas that got absorbed into the charcoal. Got rid of my EVAP codes once and for all. Topping off your tank is a big no no in my book after that.

Default My point exactly...but I'll bet the canister could have been unfilled

by purging it with air. Maybe not...certainly the dealer/mechanic wasn't going to purge it.
I agree...topping off the tank is generally a no no these days.

Default Replaced N80 valve

replaced it and rescanned and I am not getting those errors. Do I have to wait a bit before they appear?

How long does it take to reappear before I conclude that did the trick?

Default Not long if the canister is, indeed, bad. Give it a couple of start cycles.

The engine will purge gas in the canister under cruise/high vacuum conditions, then canister will try to absorb excess gas fumes when fueling or cold start. AFAIK, the only way the CEL could be set would be a vacuum leak in the canister or inoperative purge valve (same thing)...I really doubt if there is an HC sensor per se for a contaminated charcoal canister.
