Default Replacing Rear Cigarette Lighter with Protective Cover

I'd like to remove the cigarette lighter that is accessible from the rear seat of my 2004 A6 and place some sort of cover on the receptacle. I don't want my kids playing with the lighter or receptacle when they sit in the back seat. Any idea where I can get a suitable cover?

Default You could use the VW cap, but it is only spring loaded...

If you really want to disable the outlet completely, I found out that when you lock the windows (switch on the driver door), it disables the rear outlet as well. Good safety, but if you really want to disable it, it is easy to remove the wires (simple female blade connector, they slide off). Using a plastic putty knife or something else that does not damge the plastic, pry open the rear vent, pull unit out (stright back). Inside, you will see wiring for rear power outlet. Simply pull these out. FOr photos, see the Tech Atricel from TeddyBGame for installing a console outlet, has pics of the rear outlet wiring.

https://www.audiworld.com/tech/elec85.shtml</a

Would a plastic bicycle plug for handlebar end work?

Default Do you want to cover it or disable it?

A simple cover should be available for a couple of bucks at any Autozone-esque store, but that won't kill the live receptable -- which I presume is the primary purpose. At least the lighter won't get lost, though...

I suppose you could glue it in along the edges with a light adhesive/caulk-type thing so it's removable later.

What about the cover, plus pop the rear vent and lighter assembly out and disconnect the wire? Simple, yes?

Take out the fuse & forget about it.

Agreed, if that 1 fuse only controls the lighter.

Fuse 33 controls both the front and rear lighters. I pulled the fuse. I'd be happier if I just knocked out the rear one, but since I have a hardwire install for my radar detector I don't use the front one anyways.
