Got it on the way to have lunch with the wife at her new job (more money to use on car..muahahha) when I got the P1423/P1411 CEI (Secondary Air Injection/Insuffecient Flow, thanks vag-com). I drove about 30 yards when it came on.
I have no idea why it came on...

I cleared the CEI and drove around a little again, before I realized I had very little hose left on the one section, and it didn't come back on. I've STF and read to replace the cloth hoses and you should be gtg. Couple of questions. I looked around the engine, did my best to follow the lines and I only found one other cloth type hose (blue arrow below) which was actually in pretty good shape. Could these of been replaced already? The rest seem to be a thick rubber Audi ones (red arrow below, or are these lines for something else?). Lastly, what are these ties called (green arrow), is there a trick to get them off without brute force and should I use new ones or some other tie? Thanks!

If one of the vacuum hoses is dry-rotted, chances are the other ones are on their way out. Try squeezing the cloth covering and if you feel the inside hose cracking, they have to be replaced. A couple of months ago, I decided to replace all the cloth covered vacuum hoses at one time. Since then, I have not had a single CEI due to Secondary Air Injection flow. It use to go off every other week.
BTW - those clamp are a real bitch to get off and are not really needed. The vacuum hoses fit the barbs very snug and I have never had any come loose yet.

and replace with similar clamps (you'll need a special tool) or, as I do, replace with 'gator' brand performance clamps.

special tool to crimp them, but some have used crimp-type pliers. Check it out on Grainger's website or other aupply houses.
