Default Rocker switch installed for the Servtronic relay!

Just last night I complete the changes so that the servtronic relay (steering boost) could be enabled/disabled. It is not as easy as I anticipated! The biggest challenge is the length of wire you have to splice into (VERY minimal) and the lack of space one has to work with under the dash (again...minimal). The other scary part was punching a hole in the dash to accommodate the rocker switch. I considered just having it lie in the driver's side manual slot but decided that was a sloppy way to go. Ultimately, I elected to go with the hole in the dash (sounds kind of imposing, doesn't it) just to the left and below the steering wheel. This way, it's pretty unobtrusive (not real visible) but is still within easy reach. I started with a VERY small hole and gradually increased the size to where the rocker switch would fit. The rocker rests in a nice sleeve that completely coves the hole. One unfamiliar with the Audi wouldn't even know it didn't belong and it blends well with the other buttons. All in all, I'm very happy. I like the servtronic enabled for slow stop and go traffic and disabled for highway. I'd recommend the option to anyone willing but would warn that you will have your patience tested in the process!

Default 2nd...

I recently installed the switch as well - and agree completely on the very small length of wire comment. But, it works!

I put my switch in the driver's manual slot, by drilling a small hole in the top portion of the manual holder. That way, the switch is invisible from the driver's seat, but I can reach it fairly easily...

After a few days with the boost off, I find that I'm not switching it back on much...I love the heavier feel...

Default Sure! Here you go.

Default Hey Rick, I'm jealous!

You have the "useful" bottom steering wheel buttons! (Not the ones that only control the Audi analog phone.)

Default Congrats on the mod. I was the one who wrote the FAQ listed....

in the tech section and did this last August. You are absolutely correct the space is tight and the wire length minimal. If any of you have suggestions on improving the FAQ that you followed please let me know and I will update it. I also recently updated my switch with a smaller one and added a red led to indicate when the boost is deactivated. I know...pretty useless but I was bored. Glad you all like the results.

My Audi Site

Default Has anyone done this using a Audi dashboard switch?

Just yesterday I ordered one from my local dealer. Unfortunately the only two switches available have icons for the rear power sunshade and for ESP; since I already have the sunshade switch I picked ESP. The dealers parts computer showed a total of 6 or 7 switches, but all the other showed as "unavailable", presumably because they are not used in the US.

I realize that it's a momentary switch, so I've ordered a latching relay. I'm not quite yet sure about the circuitry, the obvious design has a problem if the switch is held down too long (I'm thinking a capacitor is the answer). The other advantage this design has over a simple toggle switch is that it wakes up in a known position, so you don't have to be surprised when backing out of a parking space (if I find I greatly prefer the unboosted setting I can reverse the default position so that it wakes up turned off).

When I get it installed and working I'll post more information on what I did.

BTW, does anyone know if there is any trick to removing the group of switch to the left of the emergency flasher switch? Based on other dashboard bits I'm guessing it just pulls out.
