I'm confused as to the exact location of the rollover valve. This is a repost from the A4 (B7 platform) discussion. I have a faint gas odor near the gas cap area but I have a new gas cap that should be sealing well. Mine is a 2001 A6 2.8l Quattro Avant. Not eligible for the recall according to Audi NA.

Is the rollover valve sitting on top of the tank under the back seat or is it up by the gas cap?

Never mind, it was a leak in the overflow tank by the filler neck. I got a patch kit from Tech-Bond and that did the trick. No more code and no more leak. If you need to fix a leak in any of the plastic tanks on your vehicle get to Tech-Bond and Don will have the product for you. Nothing else will bond polyethelene or repair it but this stuff will.

I believe it was 0442, small evap system leak and then it changed to large evap system leak 0455. The kit from Tech-bond is doing the trick. Now when I remove the gas cap it makes a nice hissing sound where previously it did not.
