Default RoyalPurple Synthetic Oil?

I'm getting ready to change the oil in my 2.7T, and I'm wondering if I should try Royal Purple Synthetic oil. Before I go off half cocked, I'd like to hear from the vast wisdom of my fellow audi-ites. Any recommendations, thoughts, and/or comments about this brand of oil?

Default Re: RoyalPurple Synthetic Oil?

Royal Purple is probably one of the best synthetics out there, hands down.

Problem is that it is usually only available from speed shops. Not a problem, so long as you don't need to put oil in your car in the middle of the night, unless you carry enough in your car.

Personally, I run Mobil 1 0w40 in my Turbo Volvo, and that will be probably what I run in whatever A6 I finally decide on.

Default havent read much about it

I've only heard good things about Mobil-1, Redline, and Amsoil. You really cant go wrong with any of those three. Click the link below and check out the forums for waaaay too much discussion on oils; particularly the oil analysis forum. Running a synthetic oil is not recommended but absoluately necessary for a turbo engine IMO.

Click

Default Lotsa prior Posts many moons ago. Probably good, just don't get sucked into the ....

racing formula vs non-racing is better fallacy. Call RP. I feel they responded honestly.

Default The Used Oil Analysis (UOAs) I've read on Royal Purple are not that impressive.

Seems most people don't get good longevity out of that oil, although some are happy with it. It does not seem to do as well as Amsoil, RedLine, or Mobil1. I'd skip it.
