I'd think they would just order boxes with a different gear from the supplier.
This isn't really all that expensive. It adds cost, but for the thousands of RS6's they built world-wide, (not a lot of 'thousands', but nevertheless) it wouldn't add that much to spec different gears...

Well, we've gone clear around the guessing game loop and back to sq 1, and can't distinguish between
overall steering ratio and rack ratio. Let's drop it!
