Default Was in the exact same dilemma when we ordered the car back in the day....

...had first child on the way, and were thinking we should get the platinum to keep the interior a little cooler in the California sun (we have charcoal interiors in our other 2 Audi's). Went so far as to initially order it that way. Then after speaking with some folks here in the boards, etc., we changed our minds (and our order) to go back to black. Honestly, we don't regret it a bit. May get warmer at times then a lighter interior would, but the Warm Weather, sunshades, and future tint job should solve most of that. Whatever you choose, though, I'm sure you'll be happy. Both look great in/on the car. GL.

Default

And don't wear cheap belts, the leather dye will stain the seats.

Default I have the exact same dilemma, was thinking of dye

I was toying with the idea of dying the leather black on a car with a platinum interior.

I know at least one person on the A8 forum dyed his leather.

Default I've had the light grey(silver in Audi speak) in my S6 for almost 4 years with 2 small kids and ...

it is fine and still beautiful. I have given it minimal care, cleaned and treated about once a year with the Spineybeck system (which I consider to be the best out there) and it is still beautiful. I would do it again without a second thought. We always get complements as to how stunning the contrasting grey and black panels of the interior are.

In fact the only part of the interior which I consider to be a PITA is the black carpet. It shows every bit of light dirt and lint and never looks particularly good in my humble opinion. The carpet issue has no relation to kids as it is actually the driver area that I am always annoyed with how little traffic makes it look like it needs a vacuuming.

Default No problems so far

I have an S6 with the silver alantara, and I have had no problems with "lasting impressions" from either my 3.5 year old or my 1.5 year old. The one precaution that I am very particular about is to move the passenger seat forward such that my son's feet don't kick the seat back in front of him.

I also use my S6 Avant to haul my band gear (and I'm a bass player, so I have a lot of gear!). I have padded covers for most of my cabs, and I try to load things carefully so that they don't knock around. So far, the interior has proven to be very durable.

I bought the Allroad rear cargo mat, with the velcro cargo "anchors", and this works really well - especially for groceries. I also bought the premium all-weather mats, which I like. Heck, I even threw an Allroad hitch on the back (so I can tow my boat), but I still need to have a longer gooseneck fabricated before I can use it.

My dealer just gave me a free detail job (which they owed me back from when I bought it in August) and it looks marvelous!

Tom.
