Default S6 sedan unavailability in U.S.

Many people (including myself) wish the current S6 was available in North America in sedan only or both sedan and avant bodystyles. But it is not. The current S6 is available only in the avant bodystyle in North America. The reason for this is because the current S6 sedan is far too similar to the current A6 4.2 sedan in terms of price, feature content and, to a somewhat lesser degree, performance. I guess AoA fears the current S6 sedan would cannibalize sales of the current A6 4.2 sedan in North America. However with the next generation A6 4.2 vs. S6 vs. RS6 sedans and avants there will be a much more significant difference in terms of price, feature content and performance (or so the automotive press says). If that is the case, I would really like it if the next generation A6 4.2, S6 and RS6 were available in both sedan and avant body styles in North America and it just may happen. Some people in North America would rather have the avant while others would rather have the sedan. I fall into the latter category. For me the the A6 4.2, while a great car, is a little tame, the RS6 too wild and the S6 just right.

The engine variation of the new S6 will allow it to be sold as a sedan in N.A.

I agree. I would be the owner of an S6 "saloon" if they were available.

They are available, just not here in North America.

I'll wait for the Ten cylinder next generation S6.

Default That sounds like good news to me

I know there have been persistent rumors about the new S6 having the RSR's and baby Lambo's V10. There are even a few rumors than the new S6 will have a 5L variant of the heavily revised four cam 40V V8 (w/o FSI) in the new A6 4.2 and A8 with the new RS6 receiving a twin turbo version of the 5L variant of the heavily revised four cam 40V V8. I am betting on the latter rumor as the V10 will most likely be reserved for the RSR and Baby Lambo since it is a very expensive and exotic engine. That is based on the extravagant price of both the RSR and baby Lambo.

Default You won't see a RS 6 Avant here...and it is likely that you won't see...

all 4 of the combos of 4.2 A6s and S6s. Still, it would not surprise me to see the same lineup even when the new A6 comes out...that is...4.2 sedan (new body style in MY 2005), S6 Avant (new body style in MY 2007). Don't bet on a new body style RS 6...at least not until 2009 MY.

Depending on how well or not well the RS 6 does here, you might not see it again anyway even if it is made in Europe.

Very bad timing for the intro of the RS 6...the economy is in the dumper and $90k Audis might be the first thing someone will cross of their list of frivolous expenditures.

Methinks the 2.7T is going away and the 4.2 will be entry w/ a 10 S6 w/ Turbo RS to follow.

What about the normally aspirated V6 version of the A6?

Default Alas we A6 turbos are a vanishing breed.

they will probably run the 3.0, 4.2, S6 and RS6.
2.7T was a heck of a bargain for what it did. Except that 2000 model- lots o bugs in that one.
