Default Has it been confirmed that the new S6 will have a V10?

And is it official? I think there were a couple of isolated rumors that the new S6 will have a 5L variant of the heavily revised four cam 40V V8 (w/o FSI). Either way the new RS6 is supposed to have a twin turbo charged version of the new S6's engine. That would help the RS6 produce the same amount or a bit more hp and torque than the new BMW M5's V10.

Default Fairly strong rumor...same way rumors originated about the new S4 with a 4.2 V8...

eventually it became confirmed. I suspect the V10 is NOT official or really finalized...but I would not be surprised if it is true.
A next generation RS 6 is probably just a "proposal" drawing somewhere...I'm gonna be a lot older by the time that would ever arrive...I'm not gonna worry about that thing.

Default I think this kind of speculation bodes well for Audi

I don't happen to think it is true, but it is a good omen.

Remember, Audi is an arm of a company known for platform sharing and reusing parts. As such, an S4 with the same engine in it as the A6 and A8 (if not exactly the same) makes a ton of sense.

A special V10 out of Audi for one car doesn't fit that mold. VW doesn't even seem to be headed that direction (more like the W engines).

But suddenly customers expect Audi/VW to design a whole new engine just for one car because it happens to be an S car. To me this shows quite an elevation of Audi as a performance company. Suddently Audi's customers expect that Audi will elevate their S cars to the same level as BMW's M's which get their own special engines not used elsewhere in the lineup.

No, I don't think that is terribly likely given Audi's past. But I think it bodes well for Audi's future. Audi is being accepted as a performance division that is expected to match up to BMW.

No, I don't think the next two S-cars will do this, but perhaps soon after that they will. If we expect this from them and are willing to view them as a permium company and pony up the corresponding dough, then they will likely change to fulfill our expectations.

It is now Audi/Lambo; not Audi/VW.

Default You will not see FSI in North America on anything bigger than an A3 due to...

the high sulphur content of our gas and the inability of current FSI technology to meet our stringent emmision standards on the big motors.

Default yup Audi doesn't care for VW's W engines, and guess what Audi doesn't have to use them

hence v8 4.2, 2.7tt, etc ...
