Does anyone have any inside scoop as to whether or not AUDI plans to bring the S6 to America? I think they will have to based on the introduction of the M5. If there are no currnet plans, what can we, the consumers, do to help sway and AUDI decision.

I've asked Audi twice, admittedly for an S6 Avant 6 speed, and they have said no plans.
I think they are missing the boat but have no idea how to convince them.
Though note that at the end of Matt Daniels, test drive of the 2000 models article, he does state that someone at a press conference said Sports Wagons would be the next big thing so maybe there is hope !
Awaiting the RS6 - that will do just fine !

There does not seem to be much interest. I think that we will get the Allroad and the A6 2.7T Avant next fall as part of the sporty wagon theme. We may also get the S6 sedan, but it all depends on how well the A6 4.2 and 2.7T sedans sell in the next 6 months. With the 2.7T Avant and the Allroad there is little market left for the S6 Avant so I very much doubt that we will get it.

Why would anyone buy a 340HP S6 for $60k+ rather than chipping and dropping a lighter A6 2.7T and achieving the same results for 15 grand less? IMHO, Audi should have thrown a couple turbos on the 3.7L V8 (from the A8) into an A6 and called THAT the new S6. Big miscalculation on their part, with the new M5 eating the S6 for lunch...

FWIW, two weeks ago, I spoke to the Audi dealer in San Antonio about the S6. He said that he had been told that the S6 would be coming to the U.S. Indeed, he indicated that it may even be as introduced early as a 2000.5 rather than a 2001 model.

The October Motor Trend in my mail box today (page 61) says yes!!! Both a 2.7 biturbo "the same now featured in the S4", and if that's too lame for you there is the "4.2 liter/300 horsepower V-8" as well. Unless MT doesn't get straight info....but as someone noted, it doens't sound like they're planning a biturbo Avant for US release.
