S8 vs S6 vs A6 4.2
Does anybody know why from the same 4.2 liter engine, they have very different HP ratings? Cams? tuning? exhaust? where is the biggest leap in HP from the a6 4.2 to the S8 coming from?
S8= 360hp, S6/S4=340, A64.2=300

Do you know if there are reliability issues with the S8 since it squeezes out 60 more hp than the A6 4.2? Why dosent Audi go with the S8 engine with 360hp instead of the planned 330 hp 4.2 for the new 2005 A6.

One thing I noticed with the S6 was it's aggressive tuning... and this is stock.
i mean all of the audi's are designed to run lean up top but the S6 stock was throwing some high timing correction factors.. it runs really lean... as far as reliability, i haven't really heard of a lot of problems with the V8...

360hp = old 4.2 block, timing belt at the front, new 4.2 = 340for the s4, detuned to 330 for the A8/
and A8L, and 335 for the A6 4.2, new block, timing chain at the rear of the engine, entirely new engine, only thing similar is the displacement size, that is all.
The 335 is detuned, the car is probably capable of better breathing in/out, bigger injectors, better software, putting out probably closer to 375-380, when done up right. I mean look at the B6 S4, with software and Miltek downpipes back exhaust, the car has dynoed over 400hp.
