Default Safety O ring CV joint 2001 Audi A6

Hi guys,

Need your help in tracking a part number..

My mechanic asked me to buy a CV joint and when I take the part to him he said the joint is missing a safety O ring and he cannot install it on my car.

I tried calling everyone and they all say that there is no such part. I did some research on forums and found this thread

https://www.audiworld.com/forums/sho...0#post23950760

I showed this thread to my mechanic and he looked at the pic and said that is what he is talking about. does anyone know what is the part number for the part the guy is showing in the pic?

My mechanic said if I am not able to find that ring then I should buy the whole front right axle assembly. My car is 2001 model and I don't want to get OEM part which costs over 200 bucks. what other good after market options do I have? OP Parts vs FEQ vs EMPI?

Thx in advance for help

That clip is usually included in the CV joint boot kit. Usually about $20 for the entire kit.

I did get the oem part for cv joint and boot - outer , but it doesn't come with this O safety ring that the mechanic is talking about.

i have never had to replace that on an Audi, but i know pelican parts sells them for porsche. Try their site.

I expect audi will sell it too if you find a knowledgeable parts guy

There is no clip on the inside of the cv joint.

There is a small wire clip that fits into a groove on the axle and keeps the cv joint from sliding off the end of the axle. That small wire clip is included in the boot kit.

If your mechanic insists that there is another O-ring inside the cv joint, find a new mechanic.

Within the large ring, the wire clip is at the 10 o'clock position.

I believe it's shown in the ETKA parts diagram that your dealer should have seen. Google p/n 441407297 images and it's the 4th picture from the left top row. It is 4.30 and faster for you to get that at a VW or Audi dealer near you.

The one that looks like a C

And incidentally, you can reuse the old ones a few times.
