The picture in this link here is what I mean by being one method to keep the cv joint on the shaft, that broken snap ring stays in the cv joint. The other method is like you have, the groove on the axle shaft keeps the snap ring in place and does not come out with the cv joint. 2 different styles of dealing with securing the outer cv joint in place on the shaft. Sorry I made it more difficult than needed.

I spoke to the mechanic again and I went through my old repair receipts and it looks like the right front axle was replaced exactly an year ago and the after market part that was used has the snap ring at a different place as show in the picture instead of its usual place and that is why the oem cv joint that I have will not fit in the existing axle.
I'm left with no choice but to get an entire axle assembly. So guys, which aftermarket part would you recommend. Should I go with local avandced auto parts store?
