It turns out swapping seats not a simple as I had expected...
Sensors and the potential for an airbag blowout etc. Frickin' technology!!!
Having stomach staple surgery may be the cheaper (and less risky) solution to fitting in my sport seats.
Sincerely
NoCarbEatin' A6'er

I called Shine Racing Service for a little advice. SRS had not performed a seat swap in an A6, but they did try to diagnose an issue with an A6 seat.
The customer's memory seat option would change the mirrors, the seat back, and the seat height, but the fore/aft postion would remain. They found through the diagnostics that there is a sensor in the seat to monitor fore/aft postion, and there may be several sensors attached to the seat itself. There's a very good chance that once the seat is removed and replaced, the diagnostics need to be reset to reacquire the positioning of the seat. While delving into this issue, SRS came across a special tool that the manual said was required to keep the airbag from blowing. Um, that's scary enough.
At the very least, it would be good to get a more informed opinion. I think I'll head on over to the A4/S4 forum and see what those guys are doing with seats.

The airbag won't go off if you disconnect the battery on the car first. Okay, maybe if you jumped 12VDC to the igniter after you disconnect the battery, it might go off.
You have to ensure it has the same pin connectors, if so, you should be able to do it, if not, you'll have to be good electrically to finish it off!
I'm sure it could be done.

The module in the seat has the same part no. the plugs and harness are different. the small plugs I think are for the airbag and seatbelt. I wish someone could help that has done this in the past. I think the harness needs to be swaped .
