secondary air pump...

now i had it replaced because it was noisey as hell. the new one isn't loud but has anyone tried anything to quiet it up?

I know it seems loud, but...

...only runs loud for the 1st minute or so, right? After that it should quiet down a bit.

Mine was loud - upon closer inspection, it was because the shell was coming apart. There were some rivets holding it together, with most of them not holding it anymore. I got some small bolts from the hardware store to replace them - now it's silent.
