Dont worry its not broke .. but ...
I was showing my teenage son VCDS as he is starting to show an interest in cars and the mechanicals involved .. and being a teenager with a laptop it wasnt long ( about 5 minutes ) before he was showing me stuff.
he put my lights through a diagnostic and sure enough they went all the way down all the way up and back to level . it was pretty darned cool .
Up until this point i had NO idea i even had this option . I just turned the lights on and went . Is it something you guys notice in your every day driving ? is it suppose to go through a diagnostic every time you turn on the lights ? i am beginning to wonder if i have this option but it is just not enabled .
no codes no issues at all , I was just wondering ..

I knew the car had the option when I bought it, but you never really notice it unless you turn the lights on first THEN start the engine.
For whatever reason, the system is only active while the engine is running.

Also, with the engine running and lights on, you can push down on the front end and hear/see the lights adjusting (the stepper motors that run it are actually quite loud).
It's pretty cool for the little bit I was playing around with it, then I got over it. lol
I'm actually thinking about just removing the system, just one less system to fail... It's fairly useless 80% of the time anyway, unless you tow or have a lot of junk in your trunk (literally!)
