I have decided to sell my 2004 A6 2.7T S-Line.
I'm in SF Bay Area. Car has 92k miles, transferrable extended service contract with no deductible and LOTS of recent service including timing belt, water pump, t-stat and all tensioners, valve cover gaskets, all cam seals, all exhaust valve guides replaced.
Several tasteful mods.
Check out the ad under classifieds for much more info.
Thanks.

True...but then why wouldn't you trade it in? Often the dealer gives a better trade in with a higher new car price; the dealer WILL make a profit.

So, in the end, isnt that an argument not to necessarily trade it in?
I think you said "if they give you a better trade-in, they get it back on the new car price" -- which is absolutely true.
So it a wash.

One fact that stands true is the value of any car is based on zip codes, and I'd bet that this car would fetch more just the way he is selling it in that market vs. the "lets just say" Akron Ohio market, people out there make more money on the national average and of course their taxes and cost of living dictate that too.
This car seems to be a very good+ conditioned sale and if I were the owner after I sold it there would look at a newer used replacement out of the state to buy low and drive it back, of course that also takes time and money along with risk of the real condition of the newer purchase.
I guess the balance is all relative and the wash is most emanate when dealing with a dealership, no one stays in business trading dollars at a retail level we just try to find that area.

For what it's worth, I just purchased an almost identical car last week and his price is very close to what I paid here near Chicago. My car is optioned out exactly as his, has 86k miles, and is bone-stock and I paid $11k for it. Good luck with the sale, I think the price is right.
