Default Service Advisor: "What does audiworld.com know about recalls?"

So I'm dropping my car off this morning for the 30k service, and I ask about the dash recall. "What recall," the Service Advisor says. I tell him. "Funny, you're the third customer to ask about this."

"Don't you read the newspaper?" I ask. I get a blank stare. "How about audiworld.com? I read it there, too."

"What does Audiworld.com know about recalls?" he replied.

"Well," I said, "it's not so much what they know as the newspaper articles and government releases that have been quoted verbatim in the A6 Forum."

"Gee, we usually get notified pretty quickly by Audi whenever there is a recall," the Service Advisor shrugged. "Maybe I should ask the Zone Rep. the next time he comes in."

I'm still trying to decide what to make of this whole exchange.

Default Some service reps work from 7am to 6 or 7pm. Some work 6 days a week.

In other words, they don't get out much ;-)

It would appear your service advisor may be illiterate.

Default Experience has show it is WE who are the car enthusiasts.

NOT the service guys, the sales people, etc. To them its a job.. to us its LIFE ITSELF...so we pride ourselve in knowelge and shring information.

YES it would make sense for every dealer to designate a person as a WEB READER... but then if they did the would know only know what we knw... but they would have an idea who has done hush hush mods to their cars....

I'll take an un informed dealer...for now...

Default I just talked to Audi about it

They had me on hold for about 5 minutes and admitted there will be a campaign for it and to expect a letter in the near future if my car is included (2000 A6 2.7T).

So without saying it is a full on recall and exact dates they admitted that it is in the works.

So I guess the best thing is to wait and hope no more go up in the interim.

Go to the NSHTA web site, there you can view and print the recall bulletin.

Default My advisor admitted they're usually the last to know; asked me to fax him a copy from NHTSA site.

I think AoA likes to keep it's people in the dark. Otherwise they'd keep the dealership service people informed BEFORE the press publishes it. Can't blame the dealer personnel if AoA doesn't give them advance notice.
