Audi doesn't pay for service in Europe - service intervals longer there

Default That's what happened with BMW ....

I used to get nag letters all the time from the service dept. reminding me that my oil needed changing every 3,000 miles.

Then suddenly, once BMW NA adopted the scheduled maintenance program, oil changes and tuneups were based solely on the on-board service indicator. Needless to say, most people ended up getting oil changes once, maybe twice a year. Funny how that works!

Default Not sure, too busy to do much beyond ask service writers, techs, and observe

( 10 to 12 hrs a day, 6 days a week - 1 weekend off per month ) This is posted from home.

If I had it, I would pass it along. I would like to have as many reliable cars and happy owners out there, as possible. If changing the oil more often would ensure that, I would be a strong advocate - wouldn't Audi as well ?

Default Do the math!! (more)

Say Audi/VW has 50,000 cars under warranty (random but conservative number)

1 extra oil change per year per car (probably conservative)

$20 dealer reimbursement per oil change (Could be?)

$10,000,000 per year to the bottom line

With those kind of numbers anything is possible!

50,000 x 20 = 1,000,000

Default Given the amount of money Audi has spent to relaunch in N.A., that is peanuts !

Really, look at the intervals in Europe. Much longer in most cases. Audi isn't paying for service there.

Also, service is a bonus - freebie almost - it is not a right, but a courtesy. After the break-in, change the oil as often as you would like to pay for it.

PS. when my S4 Avant comes, I will be at a loss as to how little there will be to do to the car.
