Default Shifter locked on '02 s6

Got in my otherwise fine running machine today to find that my gear shifter is locked. Tried the usual fixes, making sure the steering wheel wasn't locked over to one side, brake not impeded by carpet etc. to no avail. Is this a bug that others have encountered? Is there an 'easy' shifter lock disable or is it off to the shop on the trailer? Come to think of it, how does one even get it onto the trailer when it's locked in park?
Pmail me at jayfitz10@***.net as my old email is changed.
Thanks for any tips, this list has been a great resource,
Jay

Default Brake switch...common ailment...

if you pres the brake pedal, does the little red light next to the shifter go out? If not, then it is likely the brake switch. Part only costs $25 or so from the dealer. Not sure the part number, but you can search Stoney's Links for that (se the link below my sig).

Go to step 6 of this tech post to see how to remove it:

nene's RS6+ pedal intallation

The part number (I believe) is 3B0-945-511, but you should confirm with your local parts dept.

Wow, that was fast-
As I remember the light next to the shifter stayed lit with the brake pedal pressed, so I guess that's it.
Thank you very much!

Default May be as simple as a stuck button. Press with thumb then slide thumb off...

... so that the button snaps outwards. This may solve it. This assumes it is stuck in park, which is what I had.
