I had 235s on my 99 Avant and they were just right..
The S6 comes with 255s which is def overkill for 3.0..anyone know if its possible to put a 235 on an 8 inch wheel?

yes, you can put 235/45/17 on 17x8 no problem.

the brand and size you are interested in, and then go to "spec" page for those tires, their chart will give you the recommennded rim width possibilities as well as other size and load data for each size.

Quattro. According to most tire manufacturers, 255's are actually too wide for an 8" wheel.
