Default Skipping problem with Phatbox...

Looked for help on the Audio forum and STFA but have not had much luck...

I Just got my Phatnoise hooked up and I'm loving it, best $150 I ever spent. I've managed to fit my entire music collection on the 20gb DMS cartridge with some space left to spare. Now I can finally start using the 300-disc CD jukebox I bought 3 years ago for my HT system and have not touched since.

My only complaint with the PB is that I'm having an issue with skipping during playback (like a scratched CD type skipping) I know it's not the MP3/WMA files because I have the same ones loaded on my ipod and another flash MP3 player that I use frequently with no problems.

The skipping is not constant, its intermittent between tracks (i.e. every other track will skip once or twice during playback).

I have the stock symphony headunit in my 00 A6 and the Phatbox replaced my 6-disc trunk mounted CD changer which stopped working for whatever reason. I also upgraded to the latest firmware when I installed it.

Any thoughts?

Default Are you converting your music to MP3?

I was having some strange sounds when I converted to WMA format. I've had no conversion issues from CD to MP3.

Default Thanks, I found this...

But I have pretty much ruled out all of these possibilities...<ul><li><a href="http://www.phatnoise.com/kb/index.php?page=index_v2&amp;id=75&amp;c=9">Skippin g problems.</a></li></ul>

Default Check the oriention of the phatbox itself, I had skipping problems because I mounted it...

in the same place where the changer was the trunk. Others have done this with no problems but I had major skip problems. You may also want to check the cable. The instructions say to allow at least 3" before the cable bends. This is crucial.

Good luck -

Default I have mine mounted in the same place...

Phatnoise says that horizontally is the ideal way to mount it. Where else can i mount it? Did you keep yours in the CD changer slot or remount it elsewhere?

Default If you can reproduce the "skip" when the car isn't moving...

try to copy the file again as MP3. If you're having the same problem I had, the skip was always in the same place in the song. Never has it in any MP3 format songs.

If it only happens when the car is moving, and/or not always the same song....it's probably not the format.

The connector to the Phat box Needs certain space and bending requirements to work properly. Has this skip been there since day one?

Default It will skip regardless of the car being in motion or not....

Next time it skips I will rewind/start the track over to see if it skips again in the same part of the song. And yes, it has been doing it since I first installed it only a few days ago.
