Default Slightly Grinding Front End After Reverse

First off:
2002 3.0L Quattro
112,000 Miles

After backing out of a spot or driveway I hear a slight grinding coming from what sounds like the driver side front wheel. I do not notice this if I come to a stop then go again. It only last for about a 1/4 of a tire turn. Before I head off to the dealership, any ideas? Thanks.

B

Check the dust shield which is on the inside of the brake rotor. Just push it away from the rotor in a few spots and see if that helps. Warning...your hands will get dusty from the brake dust, si if you care about your shirt cuffs, roll up your sleeves!

What's up BD! Long time no see, completely due to the fact that I haven't logged in here in about 3-4 years.... How's the ride doing?

front drive shafts/axles. Boots are known to deteriorate and loose grease, causing the cv axle to wear out.

Ride is doing well. Picked up a silver 2002 4.2 in January 2006, since then, I've done a few things to it )) It just passed 100k recently, and everything is still running smoothly. BTW, I sent you a PM.

Most recent picture I've taken was last fall...

I have to go with BD on the dust shield. Had the exact same problem - also driver front. Happened most of the time at low noticable speeds and for a few seconds at a time. Pushed the dust shield back and noise went away Check that first!

Default Midwest winter has played hello with my A6..........

Just found a totally ravaged Outer PS CV - boot after hearing the tell-tale rattling of the deteriorating joint ...... ice and snow did a number on it.

Mine just ticked over 100000K miles too ...... seems like about the average longevitiy of this thin rubber.

Shoulda stayed in Vegas and took the extended layoff !!!
