So after 61k miles my orignal '00 fuel senders go wacky.

My first issues with the fuel gauge have come up. My 'fuel routine' has not changed- always use the highest level of Chevron gas.
So last Friday, I find the yellow warning light, with a 20 mile until empty reading. I get off the free way, and the car dies within 15 yards of the gas station- reading 10 miles until empty. I would have made it if I was not sitting at the light for 5 minutes. I had to push the car over, and get a big gulp of gas at the station- they ran out of 1 gal. cans.
The prior fuel stop I put on 19.0x gallons of fuel, but the readout said I had 20 miles left. I thought it was maybe a 'funny gas pump'. But didn't think much of it.
Now it's the dancing needle. The only way I know how far I can go is by clicking over to zero the trip odometer each time I fill up. I know at around 280 miles, I have an average of 1-2 gallons left.
So for those 2000 owners out there who thought they didn't need to do this, you might want to reconsider.
Cheers-
Ernesto

go wacky when you drain the tank almost to the bottom before filling up. It is best to always leave a couple of gallons in the tank and not let it get too empty.

even if you don't think you have a problem with fuel sensors. That was what clued me in that I DID have a problem. Besides, you can do an MPG calculation every time you fill up if you do this.

I think it was 3 times.
I haven't had a problem and I run to empty all the time. I use virtually every kind of gas.
So I would say the only downside to getting them replaced is the hassle. They have the kinks ironed out, IMHO.
