So I finally did the servotronic swap from 605 to the 628...

got a 628 from another AWer who removed the relay from his car (thanks Gil!), but had set it aside to install when I had the chance.
Finally installed. At first, no noticeable difference. When the car is stopped or at low speeds, steering is still very light and over-boosted. However, once on the highway, it seems to have less boost, and a bit more positive feel. If fact, it feels like it actually has a more positive center when going straight on the highway.
I will try this 628 out for a while.
Not sure if I will do that mod that servotronic bypass while in tiptronic (from wildblueyonder). I got the wiring harness, but I have not yet decided.

I did a simple switch (no connection to the tip), and it's great. 95% of the time I have it switched off (no 605/ less boost), but when the wifey drives, or if I'm in a parking lot, I just need to flip the switch.

while the 628 relay was used starting in 2002. The 628 was designed to offer slightly less boost to the power steering.
Others here have completely pulled their relays, which gives a much stiffer feel, but can be so stiff that parallel parking becomes a muscle-building activity. I tried pullingthe relay, but my wife would not be able to steer the car at slow speeds without it.
FYI - Lots of stuff under Stoney's Links (link just above and to the right of my signature picture below). Also, Stoney posted a while back a summary of the steering relays, differences, etc. Check it out here:

Stoney's servotronic post

as it is my understanding that the relays were only for the U.S. market- you know the U.S. girlie-men not strong enough to turn a big hard steering wheel. Not sure about this though.

I'm at a point where I want to check to see if someone snuck a Servotronic relay back in there because it almost feels light again! ;-)
