Default so, talked to the mechanic about my rotors....

apparently they said they always replace the rotors when they change the pads. they said something about the lip of the rotor causing some kind of uneven distribution and would cause glazing over of the rotors. is this total bs? should i be fine just replacing my brake pads and leaving my rotors as is? don't know too muhc on the subject. I was however, planning to chip the car in the near future. would a caliper upgrade be something to consider for better braking? and what about SS brake lines? Any help would be appreciated, thanks

Default Replacing rotors should be done due to rotor wear/thickness, not because pads are worn...

...if that were true, it would be very expensive to replace rotors every time pads were worn!!! Ask them how thick the rotors are.

Default Only reasons to change rotors are pulsing brakes, wear below limit or damage

Otherwise, yes, its total b/s.

The pads are supposed to be the consumable part.

Default Audi rotors..explained...

If we are talking about OEM rotors.

From 2000-2003 the spec was rotors get replaced when the pads get replaced. Rotors are not cut.

In 2004 the spec changed and the rotors no longer get replaced. They still don't get cut either.

SO if you drive mom and pop like, then keep your rotors. If you drive hard... then replace them.

Are you quoting Audi specs or PR specs? What is the logic behind your recommendation?
