I obught a 2000 A6 1.8T a few weeks ago & somone has scratched it already (Some people dont like to see others having nice things)
The scratch is about 7" long & isnt to bare metal. I was thinking of going to a company like "Chips Away" but before I do,,,,,
How good is T-cut & polish in situations like this ? I believe that there is T-cut for metallic paint.
If I do try T-Cut & Polish, will it cause problems for proffessional scratch removers
Any advice appreciated
Happy New Year
PS the Picture isnt the greatest but it hasnt really stopped raining here in the UK for weeks

paint with a compound. If it is to the metal they are going to have to paint that area.

Congrats on the car and bad luck concerning the bastard responsible for the scratch. Know how you feel only too well.
I have found Turtle Wax 'Safe-Cut' works well, if the scratch is minor or slightly deep. It won't make it disappear, but reduces the initial effect well. Be prepared to work quite hard with this stuff, elbow grease and lots of it. Then go over with a quality restorer and was like Auto-Glym.
If it's deep, chips away are supposed to be great, anything's cheaper than a panel re=spary at Audi.
Hope it works out well

Sorry to hear it but sadly it's something that most of us has experience with. The Detailing forum has discussed this quite often and that's where I go when I need help working with the finish.

I know what you mean about people's attitude to other people's hard-earned property. My wife's last car got scratched with 3 days of her getting it, thankfully the A2 seems to avoid too much attention.
If that's your real number plate (or if it's anything like that), that could be your reason for the vandalism. I've seen cars with private plates get keyed for no other reason regardless of age of the car - I have a friend with a BMW that was untouched until a week after he stuck a plate on it, then it got the boot keyed in his driveway. His other car (a Nissan, also plated) got one long scratch from nose to tail as well last year.
I hope this was a random one-off and you don't have this trouble again. Good luck with the repair, and I'd agree with the opinions here to avoid t-cut, it's too harsh IMHO.

Thanks for the advice on the T-cut possibly being too harsh.
your 48 pics are great.
The telephone arm rest in particular. (I wonder if i could do something similar to the A6)
The plate is correct. I removed my surname initial (Dont know why - I havent broken the law!,,, Well actually with the dodgy number 2, I probably have)
I really need to sort out some Off Road Parking.
Id really be interested in any mobile phone mod advice too.

change your plate back to the one it came with and your troubles will disappear.
The people who do this would usually just walk past but seeing the cherished plate is like a red rag to a bull.
As for the damage, you can touch in with a clear laquer on a fine brush, then after afew days drying, cut it back with something like T Cut. If it is through to the metal, you will probably have to have the whole panel painted.
AS for the phone holder, I am about to remove the one from my A6 as when I have the arm rest down, it is hidden, when I have it up it rattles and I don't have a mobile - so why keep it?

I've had Nokia CARK-91 hands-free kits fitted to all my Audis, the A4 was drilled into the console (but that was on contract hire so I didn't care too much), but more recently on a non-damaging clip or in the armrest.
The S8 armrest install came about through necessity - the depth of the centre console "tunnel" to the console "face" is very shallow in the S8, so a clip as used in the A6 wouldn't have worked. The swing-out arm is an Audi component, the inner lining of the armrest swaps out for the one with built in arm. You should be able to ask your Audi dealer if they can get an A6 version, and also if they have a "tame" phone installer (my dealer arranged all my installs for me). The cradle of the Nokia kit has just been stuck on with a double sided sticky foam pad...
It worked OK in the S8 because you had two armrests so could use the phone while still cruising comfortably. The only downside was that visibility of the phone display was limited in bright sunlight as you can see in the picture.
In the RS6 I've gone back to a non-destructive mounting on the passenger's side of the centre console as on the A6. It means the passenger can't get to their heated seat or AC controls, or the volume and track selection on the NavPlus, but the phone is visible and much easier to use when driving (I know it's a bit naughty, but if you take 5 minutes to dial a number because your attention is 95% on the road, I don't think it's all that bad...).
The remaining gubbins for the hands-free kit (control box etc) goes under the centre console covering on the passenger side footwell. As I'm Bose'd up, supposedly it's harder to wire sound up through the sound system, so I have a box speaker tucked up under the passenger footwell and just use the CARK-91's stereo mute feature to mute out the Nav unit when making or taking a call.
If you want any more specific info, let me know and I'll do what I can. I can get some more detailled pics of the cradle install if you like.

I contacted a local security / car gadget company (Falcon security - http://www.falcon-security.com - they have offered to install a phone cradle in the arm rest & connect up to the Audi Sound System for mute & speaker. (I dont have bose)for Ł250. This sounds like a reasonable price. (I just wish I could see an example of one they did earlier.) I can set my mobile to auto answer but i will have to pull over when dialling out. The Swing out arm would be a neat extra but I dont spend enough time on the road (or on the mobile) to warrant the additional expense. Im sure we'd all love to see some pics of the RS6 Thanks for your advice.
