Default Speaking of Tip tranny.....

Taking the car into my local dealer next Friday to have the tranny checked. I'm wondering if it be worth while to have them change the fluid/filter. Kind of pricey at around $450, but I'd rather be on the safe side. My service advisor said it isn't required until 60,000 miles. My car has about 43,000 miles. Car has recently started having a hard downshift if I cruise at, say, 30mph and hit the gas to speed up. The tranny shifts down but a very noticeable "clunk" follows, almost like slop in the driveline. You can feel it throughout the car. It shifts fine other than that. Dealer seems to think a sticky solenoid is the problem. Thoughts?

Don't take it to dealer, find a good indy and it should cost $250

2nd that. $450 is a bit excessive.

Why not DIY? Parts are $150 - just ordered them. Work looks doable...

Default The only problem with that is my extended warranty won't cover repairs if service is done at a Indy

I've had work done via the warranty and had ZERO issues with the company because service work was performed at a authorized dealer. So, if anything happens to the tranny while I have the warranty it will be fully covered provided I take it to the dealer for regular service.

Default I don't have a lift and I'm not crawling under the car on a cold concrete floor.

I'd rather pay someone to do the work in half the time. Hell, I'll go test drive a new RS4 they just got in while I wait for the work to be done.
