I just purchased a 99 A6 with 84k miles, and I have seen that there has been quite a few postings in regards to squeaking brakes. When i drive the car, there is a constant squeaking sound. It is there almost all the time while driving, but seems to change/go away when braking.

Drove by a Merchants, and they didnt have the time to look at it, but they thought it might be that the brake pads were worn down, and that the squeak comes from some kind of a wear indicator on the pads. Any suggestions?

My car makes squeaking noises when I brake. So I took it to a dealership and they checked the brakes. They said there was not anything wrong with my brakes but it is brake dust. So your brakes might just have brake dust and have not anything wrong with them.

...add an anti squeel compound to the backs of the pads or if necessary, change the brake pads alltogether.

But is it common that they squeak when you're not braking?

I'm seeing a score in the rotor too....
It's going for the wiring harness to the dealer tomorrow! Round 1 : ^ )
