Default Squeeky Front suspension?

Friends,
I couldn't find the definitive answer in archives, but what is my left front (increasingly annoying) suspension squeek? Makes noise with all motion small or large. 110K miles, '99.
Thanks as always,
Jeff

Default I would say control arm bushings, prolly lower IMO. My A4 had a horrible...

squeaking noise from the front suspension (apparently a common problem.)Anyways, Audi wanted something like $1200 to replace the control arms (which contained the "bad" bushings.)The bushings were only making noise though, because they were no longer being lubed. They are technically non-serviceable, but they eventually go "dry." Since I did not have 1.2K at the time, I cheated and used a ghetto method to make the noise stop (I lubed the bushings with an oil can...after jouncing the car several times, oil worked in and noise disappeared.) That is not the way to proprely repair the problem of course, but it certainly helped me with my diagnosis (kind of like doing a "wet" compression test, with a squirt of oil into the cylinder) My extra long 0.2...that may not have helped you at all, but I just figured that I would mention it.

Default Your control arm bushings have failed.

Look into replacing them individually or with a set like this one.
<a href="http://www.purems.com/products/product.php/II=1013">Control Arm Kit</a>

The lowers are more prone to squeak over time, the uppers just clunk.

Default I'm all over trying to get some lube in there. I don't see the risk.

Suspension feels good, not loose. It does just seem dry.

Default I've been looking at that kit. :-) I've got the squeak too. ;-(

I've also got some clunking going on up front. I'm hoping it all firms up with the Febi-Bilstein kit. Gotta' get my H-Sports on in the same job. They look so sad on my office floor.

Default Not control arm bushings.

Usually the squeaking is from the grease drying up in the ball joint at the opposit end of the control arm. There are people who have managed to install grease fittings and inject new grease, but there is debate as to whether this might weaken the arm.

As others have said, the solution is to change the control arms. The problem that it will be nearly impossible to tell which joint is squeaking, so you'll probably have to change them all. I'd probably do all 8 (four per side) and the sway bar links. Either that or check for bad bushings (you might have them too but they are not the source of your noise), replace anything loose, and live with the noise.

Default Bushings do not use or require grease...or any other type of lube.

No risk in adding it, just a mess when you change them later.

Default huh? When I had my accident and replaced the control arm, you could see the..

fluid oozing from the bushing (from behind the center bore on the inboard side) Looked like the bushing flexed/cracked and swiveled in it's bore to take some of the force of impact....
