Default steering column moan

When I first start to move my car moans ,I think it is coming form the steering column. Does anyone know or had this happen to their 2.7t?

Default Have you checked the p/s fluid level? Is the accessory belt tight? If both are good,

then perhaps the p/s pump bearing.

Depends if it rises and falls with rpms, or steering movements.

Default Sort of...

I've had a "moaning" type noise that lasts for just a second when I first move the car. It started after I had the Eibach spring/damper kit installed, so I thought it might be coming from one of the shocks. I pretty much forgot about it because it hasn't seemed to cause any problems. Is this similar to your experience?

Mine is a scraping/rubbing sound vs a moan. Can't pinpoint it.

Default I have the moan (as coop described) on my S4, with stock suspension....

...in my case, it's somewhat faint in tone, usually audible only for a few seconds...and interestingly enough, only occurs on a regular basis when pulling into or out of our garage. Occasionally, I hear the moan when I begin to accelerate out of 1st gear leaving intersections, (stoplights, etc.) I travel regaularly, which really has me confused...because it doesn't happen at all otherwise. Becuase I have stock suspension, I was thinking bad tie rod or something, as I seem to hear it coming from the front passenger side of the car. But with just 16K on the odo, that's not likely...will definitely look to the spots April referred us to, and see if there's anything there.

Default Re: Sort of...

No problems that I can see but it is very annoying. I heard it pre coilovers and now post coil overs. I just finished the changing all the belts,. water pump and fixing minor oil leaks still hear it. Just wondering if I need to have my guy dig into it and see if it is a major problem. I only hate it when I have someone in the car and you hear it.
