I Just finished troubleshooting front end on a 2003 A-6 for clunking on pass side. Bad lower ball joint was my diagnosis, but while wiggling the control arm and strut assy I noticed that the rack was moving quite considerably which was apparently adding to the problem.I could see approx. 3/4" of thread showing on one of the rack Mounting bolts.I removed the battery tray and tightened the 10 mm star bolt there. After I got the tray and battery back in,I turned the steering wheel and heard the grunting and a distinctive clunk under the battery when turning the wheel to the left.Could this be the rack binding due to other loose mounting bolts and how hard are they to get at???? Please Help.
