Story of how someone who loves to drive isn't necessarily an 'enthusiast'

So, my wife supports me in all car related stupidity I partake in. From my 73 VW Thing to my 2nd '01 A6. She loves to drive whatever it is thats in the driveway. Anywho~
Her commute to work (55 miles each way) is usually Jeep Grand Cherokee connecting to a van pool for a 110 mile round trip every work day. She wanted to drive the A6 yesterday since she was skipping the van pool and driving all the way down herself. I gladly said 'sounds great!'. Here is the exchange I had with her when she got home:
Me: How was the trip?
Her: Fun, it's really fun... even at like 70 I could floor it and feel it moving!
Me: Was it in 6th?
Her: ooh yeah, I forgot about the 6th! It was in 5th. Isn't 6th for like racin or something? Would it have been faster?
Me: (jaw drops, followed by quick recovery) Well, actually it means the RPMs were probably a bit higher... so not as good gas mileage. The ride was probably noisier than it should've been
Her: Nah, I had the radio goin, so I didn't notice.
Me: (thinking: not sure what I can say here... other than "OK, honey...") OK, Honey....

like a maniac. She likes the A6 and all, but she's somehow been converted to liking the "soccer mom" towering driver position. The stiff clutch seems to put her off a bit, too. Fine by me!
And yeah - the "OK honey" sounds like it was the safest reply!

But, she's been hinting how much she likes the automatic vs. her manual. My answer: "O.K. You can drive it on Saturdays to work, when I'm home w/the boy". An undescribable look came across her face. I decided to leave it alone and left the room quickly. No response, is sometimes a warning sign.

Similar to people who refer to "overdrive" as the gear you need to be in when you really want to accelerate.
It's not worth it to burst their bubble, I just grin and nod.

... output revs (?). You see ratios like this:
Taken from the test of the BMW 330i:
Gear - Ratio - Mph/1000 rpm - Max test speed
I - 4.35 - 5.3 - 37 mph (7000 rpm)
II - 2.50 - 9.1 - 64 mph (7000 rpm)
III - 1.66 - 13.7 - 96 mph (7000 rpm)
IV - 1.23 - 18.6 - 130 mph (7000 rpm)
V - 1.00 - 22.9 - 155 mph (6800 rpm)
VI - 0.85 - 26.9 - 155 mph (5750 rpm)
The sixth gear is less than 1:1, so it is overdrive.
