Hi all,

I'm having a bit of a weird issue with my power door locks (99 A6 Avant). The rear driver side lock is not working, but only when the door is closed. When the door is open the lock seems to work fine and it locks and unlocks. It works the same with the remote or the lock button on the door. The contact sensor appears to be working though, when the car is running and I open the door in question, it alerts me on the dash display. Unfortunately I don't have access to a VAG-COM at the moment. Any thoughts on what could be wrong, or at least somewhere to start troubleshooting?

Sounds like some wires in the door boot might be frayed or chafed, check it out this has been a common issue to your problem.

At night when you open the door do the interior lights flicker? You may have a short in the wires in the boot, as jcman described

Otherwise get the convenience module scanned for the error codes.

Thanks guys, I'll check the wires tonight. Not sure if the interior lights are flickering or not. I'll also see about tracking down a VAG-COM.
