2004 A6 3.0
Locked the car with the remote and went into a store. Returned 10 minutes later and the remote would not open the doors or trunk. I had to use the key to unlock. Since then it's working correctly???

it's in the manual to recode, or here's how....
hold down the lock or unlock button on the fob next to your A6 for a few seconds, then lock or unlock the door. This should reprogram the fob. You may have to do this a couple times.
If it doesn't work, your battery might have died, or the fob has died. My fob died about just over a month ago, and the dealer replaced both with an updated fob.

...stray RF interference in the area - maybe from microwave door openers or something. There's I store I go to from time to time where that problem often happens to me. I find if I get really close to the car before I try to open it it seems to work, but if I try first from farther away I'm hosed and have to use the key.
