Default Sounds like your guy was a lot more trustworthy. . .

than you are giving him credit for. I would take the advice. Leaving valuables in a car is an open invitation to loss. I know people who have had their cars broken into (smashed window) to get to the quarters in the center console (toll money).

Default Yes, but our society seems to deem it acceptable if you don't know the victim.

The anonymity and lack of accountability make it fairly easy to pull these stunts.

Because so many people think dealers are scum ( and I have to agree that some are ), they have no compunction about lying and mileading a dealer - especially about trade-ins. Who pays ? The dealer to start, but then it gets passed on to the consumer, who might be your friend, your sister, your mother.

Many young salespeople start out selling cars because they really love cars. After dealing with at least one conniving jerk a day ( varying levels of deviousness of course ), they get quite jaded and learn to take advantage of people whenever they can, just to bring up their sales averages. They learn that being fair is not always an option.

Me ? When I ran into these shoppers, I would turn them over to the hardball salespeople. Just not worth getting "dirty." Can't we just treat people as we would have them treat us ?
