Sunroof problem fixed, but Audi should've made it easier...

Dealer quotes me $988 for the frame. I've had this rattle for a while, and decided to fix it for my own mental health.
Seems that the rear lift mechanism contains a horizontal pin which is cradled by that same metal carrier which slides the sunroof back and forth on it's rail. There is a small plastic snap-in do-dad which secures the horizontal pin in place, both acting as a bearing for the pin, and additionally securing the carrier mechanism to the rail. This plastic piece could cost 3 cents to make, 5.00 to distribute, and is clearly one of those "wear" items you have to replace occasionally.
My complaint: that plastic piece isn't available. That plastic piece is the $988.00 hook for audi to sell me a new sunroof frame.
The bastards!!.
What I did instead.
Took a slim piece of spring steel (hose clamp) and bent it into the proper form and used it as a clip to secure that pin. (it's ugly, but it worked).
The real question is: Who do I talk to about getting the plastic piece distributed? Audi dealers shouldn't beat us to death for small parts that wear..like the lock mechanism actuator blade in the trunk lock. It pops right out when broken, and is easy as hell to replace when you need to, so why sell me a new lock for $261.00?
Tacky tacky tacky..
