Default Sunroof wouldn't close - Solution: Reboot!

I was using my key to open all 4 windows last week while the sunroof was open in what I call "tilt" position (for ventilation in the sun while parked).

I aired out the car and turned on the AC - Then closed the windows, but the sunroof wouldn't close. Through playing with the switch I actually had it fully open, but it wouldn't close!

Solution - seemed like a computer problem to me. I disconnected the battery cable for 10 minutes, hooked up the cable again, and all was well!

Kinda the A6 version of a reboot!

Default How about using the fuse to re-boot?

Actually I had the same problem within the past 2 weeks. The first thing I did (after a few choice words) was to check the fuse. It looked fine and I put it back in. I decided to check one more time before I looked to see if there was an hand crank to resolve the issue and it closed. So at least in this one instance, the fuse allowed me to re-boot.

Default Hand crank

Yes there is one. Oddly enough it is fastened to the lid of the fuse cover.

Default Yes you should, but ...

there has to be a supersecret master code that a dealership can use to restart radios after batteries have been disconnected for service. Because let's face it, most owners have NO IDEA what their code is or where to find it.

If you're interested, on the miata forum there's an FAQ on the rigamarole you have to go through if you don't have a Miata radio code. It's like a Three Stooges routine, pushing this, pulling that, standing on your head, etc.

Default The dealers I've talked to say the only way to get it...

Is to pull the radio and get the serial number, and somehow get it through that... maybe they have a database or something.

Default I can do that at will

There is some way to throw the interior cover all the way back without putting the glass all the way back, I think you have to have the sunroof partly open. If you do this, the sunroof won't close, as it needs to bring the interior cover at least the two inches forward. Running the sunroof all the way open and back to closed fixes it.

It seems to know it is in this situation and stops short of damaging itself, but it can seem like a serious situation when it happens even though it isn't.
