supersprint exhaust on the 4.2
<img src="http://www.e-lite.org/~chris/ss42exhaust.jpg">
this picture was taken from supersprint's catalog at <a href="http://www.supersprintna.com/catalog/2004/Supersprint-Audi.pdf">http://www.supersprintna.com/catalog/2004/Supersprint-Audi.pdf</a>
is this accurate for a 2002 a6 4.2?
what have you guys installed?
also, does anyone know the cost of this exhaust system or a place online that sells it, i looked through google for the part numbers and came up with nothing. i saw one post a while back that said there was a 40hp gain -- but i could have misread that. also supposedly it costs $1800. is this at all accurate?

Miltek on mine about a grand IIRC. Dallas has a Magnaflow on his that is considerably

The $1800 price is about right, but I haven't seen any real dyno reports that verify the power gain. You can buy the system from PES.<ul><li><a href="http://www.PES-Tuning.com">PES</a></li></ul>

Went custom Borla. The cans run about $85 each; just needed custom welding.

I don't beleive it adds 40 hp. Brian 4.2 has one, IIRC
Check out Magnaflow - under $500 including resonantors. Or you can leave the stock resonators and do it for even less.
Lots of info posted - try a search.

Realistically it may add about 5-7 HP. It sounds like more but
that's all that it can do. Get ready for anoying resonance from 1400-2200 RPM on the 4.2. I had it and an MTM on my 4.2 and while I liked the sound at idle, wot and all other RPM except 1400-2200, I went back to stock. It's very expensive to engineer better sound, more power and NO resonance. IMO, no aftermarket exhaust can do it.

IMHO, the stock system is the perfect diameter and design for good flow, but the stock mufflers are
there to quell sound at the expense of HP; but secondary to the greater resistance, it may add more low end torque off the line. A straight through muffler set up on stock piping diameters is strictly for better breathing on top and is discernable in throttle response and the motors perceived ability to rev up the tach quicker. Just $.02.

I bought that system for my 4.2 . I love it. Got it thru PES....
I think it was around $1700 or so. It requires no welding or refittment. Just pops right in. The difference in the way the motor pulls thru to redline is vastly improved as is the sound. Not loud but a nice growl to it... I would say their claim of 8-10% hp increase is about right.
