Agreed, although basically in the same place.

It's possible whoever worked on the car before misplaced the original & replace it with that. If I'm seeing it correctly, you can still see the outline for the original crank locking plug and the threaded hole for the 10mm bolt right next to it.

I contacted Blauparts yesterday, and they came back with pictures and a description matching the bolt I pulled. Their comment was that it "may be a flat silver plug with a allen socket hole in the middle of it." I'm not sure why it seems like some people have different bolts, but I'm just happy to have found it... And maybe this will help someone else that's looking for it.

Again, thanks everyone for all your help.

This matches the description of the plug on a AWN 4.2L. (sample size of 2)

You learn something new every day on this forum about these C5's -- I certainly did not know that.

As 4Driver4 said, the two hard lines to the radiator are the lines from the transmission. I disconnected the top one to get more movement of the lock carrier, and only an ounce or two of fluid came out. It comes out very hard. If service position is not enough room for you, what most people do is disconnect the 3 wiring harnesses near the power steering resevoir and disconnect the driver side headlight and then swing the lock carrier out from the driver's side and set it up on a crate or pail to get better access. I did my first TB job with service position and the second this way and swinging it like a gate is much better.

To drain the block of coolant, there are two recessed 6mm hex head bolts at the back of the engine on the driver's side. The one closest to the driver's side wheel is the block drain, but you will need a long reach, ball head 6mm hex key socket and an extension to get it in and out because the crossmember gets in the way. It really drains everything, since it then took me 7 liters to get the system full again.
