Default TCM Soft Coding

Tried to recode my 99.5 2.8Q last nite. Thanks to Jason. But it wouldn't "take" any new tip codes - tried 'em all. Anybody done a 2.8 yet?

We did recode the windows up/down and single click unlock by remote - very handy. Thanks again Jason.

Default Was the engine running?

I found that if the engine was running, my tip would not take a new code. I had to turn off the engine and put the key in accessory mode.

I had to change my workstation # as well, but it took it while the engine was running.

Default No, we first tried it with the engine off, but the key in running position...

And then later we tried it with the engine running, no result. DWP's stock coding was "00000" we tried to recode to 00032, 00022, 00012,and 00002, none of which was acepted. After hitting "do it" in Vag-Com (v.81a) it would still show the control module coding as 00000.

This might sound stupid, but this coding is for module 02, Auto Trans correct? I didn't think there were any other tiptronic control modules.

Default yup. you musta missed my post last week.

<a href="https://forums.audiworld.com/a6/msgs/145690.phtml">Coding attempts on 2.8 Tip</a>

As I mention in that post, it turns out there are a number of different transmissions specified in the manual with <b>significantly</b> different Tip control details. It appears there are 2 major variations of the software, aside from minor 'versioning' changes between motors/model years. Measuring blocks are almost completely different.

I hypothesize that if anything works on these earlier version TCM's, it might be a different coding scheme. I haven't had drhaller's admirable commitment to trying 100's of codes, but have hit a good sampling, and tried some obvious ones, like powers of 2 etc.

If you have any luck with further research and experimentation, please email me and let me know...

BTW, I took AUJ's suggestion to change WSC, no avail.

Bummer. It makes the Tip Chip obsolete.

It still pauses, but the main problem of the Tip was 1st gear auto shift and loafy programming, IMHO
