Default Technical Question

I have searched the A6 archives and have not found a thread with regard to a problem with my Mother's '99 A6 2.8q. My Mother's car has approximately 60K on the odometer and has recently began to exhibit a power dip while cruising at moderate speeds (~45-50 mph). I have noticed that the fuel cut off during cruise is becoming more pronounced and appears to be responsible for this power dip. Is there a suitable solution to this problem or is it part of the normal aging process for the car.

Thank you for the advice.

Cordially,

John J. Szobocsan

Default Check carefully to see if this happens in each gear at a certain rpms.

If so, it may be the variable timing solonoid. It switches over at around 3200rpms.

Default The power dip is at approximately 1600 - 2500 rpm.

I have not noticed it at higher rpms, i.e., highway cruising at 70 mph+. The car is maintained beyond the required service and at 58K the 60K service was performed. The fuel filter and air filter was changed.

Default Coolant Temp gauge work???

I wonder if the ECT is being reported wrong to the ECU.

Dirty injectors come to mind as do spark plugs (which I imagine where recently replaced). I think Techron is in your future.

I would also suggest a throttle adaptation.

Default MAF and throttle position switch are other things I might check.

Anything on the VAG?
