temp. gauge not moving

I have a 2002 A6. The temp gauge does not move even when i have drove for about 30 minutes with the air on and it is 100 degrees outside. Could this be a thermostat issue or something else?? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Did not think about that. Do u know where the coolant temp sensor is located on the car?
