Is there a maximum mileage after which you shouldn't change the tranny fluid?

Default Is there a maximum mileage after which you shouldn't change the tranny fluid?

There seem to be a lot posts lately about changing the auto transmission fluid. I want to do mine, but am worried since I don't know if it has ever been done to the car. I bought the car at 111k so don't know anything before it, but in the 40k I've driving it, it has never had a tranny fluid change.

Is the preventative fluid change still worth it or do you think it might cause more bad than good?

Default For what it's worth, I have examples of both in my fleet:

2000 A8 bought at 50k and have changed twice (now 105k)

2000 A8 (wife's) bought with a 140k and just changed filter, re-used fluid to keep viscosity the same. Now has 150k.

Both shift exactly the same. It killed me to not change the fluid but I knew that it had never been changed before.

That was the advise given to me by several A8 guys.

Default Did the A6 when it started to shift lazy at 150k. Just do it.

Just remember: flushing is for toilets, not transmissions, and be sure to change the filter.

Default I would not change it, it will be all downhill from there.

I would check the level, but leave it alone.

Default Reputable transmission shop would never change the fluid on a car that never been serviced before.

AAMCO does.

Any car? Audi? I'm not buying it. If you replace the filter and use the right fluid, no problem.
