You won't find a timing belt on a 4.2. Search for "timing chain" and see if you come up with something.

Default ummmm...not exactly...Kris Hansen did it on my 00 4.2 and it was definitely a belt

You should be able to search under the archives as I did a writeup on it from the summer of 2007 I believe. If BD is around he'll find the link quick for you. Not sure where you got the timing chain idea from.

It's basically the same as the 30V V6.. very slight differences, but the job requires the same tools, and same time.

This?

Oh, and the timing "chain" is probably because the 4.2 in the allroad had the chain vs. the belt, yes?

Everyone is correct. The first 4.2s had a belt only, then they went to a chain for exhaust and belt for intake, the later V8s had a chain only.

Right, the belt drives the exhaust cams, and each exhaust cam drives it's intake cam, just like he 1.8t and the 30V 2.8 V6.
