Default thinking of buying a 2.7t...opinions/experience?

i'm moving to new york from canada and it looks like i will have to sell my current UrS4. if i have to do that i'm thinking about spending a bit of money and picking up an A6 2.7t. just wondering how they stack up for reliability. I won't have tools or workspace for a while, if ever, unfortunatly, so reliability is pretty important.

Default I miss my UrS4. Could I do it over again, I think I would have kept it and not gone to the A6

I never did have a problem with my UrS4. Then again, I was only at 150K on the Ur when I sold it to get the A6. I have had good luck with my 2.7T and have not suffered any major issues. I did get lucky and heard/spotted the idler roller before it came apart and toasted my engine. I lucked out.
If you can, get a 6 speed tranny. It seems as if a lot of auto are packing it up these days, at least we see it more and more on the board.

Default Seriously, ST(F)A, but...

The turbos are very small and delicate. Well maintained, they last a long time. Abused, not. Expensive to replace in pairs.

Auto tranny's can have issues, not terrible, but torque limits that say, a chipped car can exceed.

Overall very good cars.

Suspension bushings go prematurely.

Its mroe expensive to maintain than your Old audi, btu probably breaks less.

Default see mine in classifieds

It's been a great car but the people here are carriers of the dreaded mod virus.

Default Have a 2004 2.7T...great car

I recently bought an '04 CPO 6spd with 24K miles. It's my third Audi and the most powerful by far (although my '85 4000Q felt quicker, but that may be a trick of diminishing memory).

'04 is the last year you can get a stick in an A6. Now is the time as many '04's are coming off lease.

I've heard reports that the turbos can get messed up if you don't let them warm up to get the oil up into the turbos OR you get lazy about changing oil. This was all third-hand. To be safe, I let it get warmed up before I push the engine.

Default '01 2.7t, 108k on clock and about 40 track days.

Yeah, I've fixed a number of things...but at this point I couldn't think of a better car. It serves a dual roll of luxury sedan and total track monster. I love it (but of course I'm pretty biased!)
