thinking of buying a 2.7t...opinions/experience?

Depends on what your definition of reliable...most parts on japanese cars can go 100-150K with nothi
ng more then regular oil changes. The 2.7T needs tlc timing belt/waterpump and everything around it, cv boots, faulty lcd screen(just some personal stuff i had to deal with), and i'm sure there's more to come. Definite love and hate relationship but i still have my 00 2.7T with 76k.
just make sure you have a indy shop near by i have three audi dealer's in my comfort driving radius and one charges $135/hr and the other two charge $155/hr....trying to find a honest/reliable indy shop myself.

It is my opinion that while I love my S4 (w/2.7t) reliability is not one of it's assets. It's not
confined just to the engine; in general I would characterize Audi's as excellent cars from a driving dynamics and performance point of view, but you have to put up with the fact that they require excessive maint and repairs (and those repairs are pricey and generally take longer to complete) than your average Japanese car. I have my S4, an '00 VW Passat and and '01 Acura CL in the fleet at the moment - no comparison regarding reliability between Acura and the german rides. That being said, I think that VAG quality had some dark days from late'00 until '04. Just my opinion. Good luck!

2004 A62.7T 6spd, IMHO sweetest C5 , only missing the S-line package...
The onlything better is the s-line. I'm not much a a V8 / auto trans kinda guy. I looked forever (6months )looking for a 6spd s-line. Was not successful. I bought a 2003 6spd and am very happy with it, except I want to retrofit the s-line spoiler and HID headlights, maybe navigation...
nice ride.

thanks for the opinions but....
someone i know put a wrench in the works for me. I also own a Corrado which i live dearly but can't bring at least right now due to import restrictions....and the fact that i won't have a place for 2 cars. he mentioned matter of factly, why not get an R32?
the positives are: its a great combo of my S4 and Corrado. 2-door and small like the corrado, vr6 engine like the corrado, fairly plush (mk4s are pigs right!!!) like my s4 and awd like my s4 (even tho it's a haldex)
the negative is at least 10k to buy it......i've been thinking of taking the profits from my house sale and putting them towards the difference in price and calling it an investment in my happiness.....
hopefully i'll get a chance to take a test drive of both when i go down next week to look for aplace.
talk about hard decisions!

'01 2.7T Orig Owner ..still love it.
I commute 25 miles every day in heavy non-freeway traffic so the 65K isn't powder puff mileage. Since going off warranty I've done brakes all around, front CV boots, mass air sensor, and aux. cooling pump. For six years of pretty heavy driving, the 2.7T has been superb. I'm planning at least four more years before even considering a new car.
I'd insist on seeing records verifying 100% syn oil use when buying a used turbo engine.

I have always done it every 3K and I kept my Audi's a long time...
But, because of the turbos, I plan to use synthetic on this one and I may go longer between changes.
I've only driven about 1K miles since I got this a month ago. I'm going in for 25K service next month..still under original warranty so it's "on the house"

I think you were searching in vain...
From what I learned, they didn't make a six-speed S-line in 2003 or 2004. You could either buy a six-speed 2.7T (if you could find one) OR get the S line and get the better suspension.
Given that they didn't put a stick in the "sport" version gives you some indication of how serious they were taking the notion of "sport".

Also, I really had to watch the oil consumption in both of my previous cars....
I never saw blue smoke or leaks on the garage floor, but as the cars got older, I checked the oil pretty frequently often had to add half a quart...
